This A-Level subject gives you a rounded, in-depth understanding of how and why sport performance works physically, mentally and in society. Its ideal if youre aiming for degrees in sports science, physiotherapy, coaching, or roles in sport, health or fitness. The mix of theory and performance helps you build knowledge and competence you can use both in exams and in real sporting contexts.
The subject will primarily be based at the King's Lynn campus for theory lessons with practical sessions taking place at the Sports campus located at LynnSport.
What will I cover on this A-Level?
In this subject you'll combine scientific, psychological, socio-cultural and practical study of sport and performance:
- Physiological factors affecting performance; explore anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, energy systems, training, nutrition and injury prevention.
- Psychological factors affecting performance; learn about skill acquisition, motivation, confidence, feedback, group dynamics, stress and personality factors.
- Socio-cultural issues in physical activity & sport; study sport history, ethics, media influence, regulation, inequality, commercialisation and technology.
- Practical performance or coaching; be assessed as a performer or coach in one chosen activity, showing core and advanced skills, tactics and decision-making.
- Evaluating & analysing performance for improvement; observe performance, analyse strengths and weaknesses and produce a plan for improvement.
