andrew barton Our Wisbech campus hair and beauty department celebrated the official opening of their new-look commercial salons, last night, with a guest appearance from celebrity hairdresser Andrew Barton. Andrew Barton is renowned as hairdressing royalty and is respected as a British hair icon. Not only is he hugely respected by his peers for being a multi award-winning hairdresser and former British Hairdresser of the Year, but is also revered for his transformational work on hit TV shows and is on speed dial to the British beauty press and fashionsitas. Like most hair and beauty students at CWA, Andrew’s hairdressing career began as an apprentice in a local salon and his career has seen him circumnavigate the world, presenting hair shows and seminars to captive audiences. At the CWA Wisbech Campus, students can gain qualifications in hair, beauty and nail technology up to level 3. Learners train in the specialist salons on either a full-time basis or once a week while they complete apprenticeships in nearby partnering salons. The salons form an important part of a major £6m investment at the campus and opened for business in September 2015. Over the past five years CWA has invested over £17m in buildings and facilities at the Wisbech campus. Principal David Pomfret introduced Andrew Barton and said a few proud words about the work that has been achieved at the college in recent times. He said: “These new cutting edge salon facilities create an inspirational learning environment and will enable us to support the current and future workforce in the hair and beauty sector.” He added: “I’d like to thank Terry Watson from Changing Salons for his design ideas and continued support throughout the new build in hair and beauty and my own staff team, Mark Reavell, Barry Wicklen, Carole Gallagher and the wider team for making this possible. I would also like to thank Affinage for their continued support of our Department.” 15PT_CWA_Wisbech_Salon_5027 Before cutting the ribbon with the principal, Andrew Barton gave a thought-provoking speech to students, staff and invited guests. He then opened the floor and took questions from the audience about his career and gave advice to current students. Andrew was more than happy to share his knowledge and experience with the room and most of all, confirmed his passion for what he does, making a point that anyone can succeed with practice and determination. Andrew said: “Thank you very much for inviting me here tonight. I am delighted to be here for this official opening of your facilities at the College of West Anglia. “My career started in a local college in Yorkshire and I am still very, very proud of those humble beginnings which set the foundation for where I became a hairdresser. This is an amazing campus and I am very excited to see the facilities you have on offer.”
