Performing arts students at the College of West Anglia (CWA) King’s Lynn campus stepped into the world of professional theatre when West End performer Simeon Beckett visited the College to deliver a specialist workshop.

During the session, students learnt choreography from Hamilton and took part in a question and answer session, giving them the chance to develop their performance skills while gaining a clearer understanding of the standards, discipline and expectations involved in working in the West End.

By working directly with a performer with professional stage experience, students were able to build confidence, refine their technique, and see how their training at CWA connects to careers in the performing arts industry.

Simeon Beckett said, “I think opportunities like this are important as it gives students an insight into what it is like to work in a professional environment and the type of standard that is required in a West End show.”

Becky Harrington, Performing Arts Course Director at the College of West Anglia, added, “On the Musical Theatre pathway, I aim to give students as much industry exposure as possible as part of their training. It was fantastic to welcome Simeon in to work with our students and give them first-hand insight into the industry. It was brilliant to see them working so hard while also developing their confidence, skills and understanding.”

The workshop formed part of the College’s wider commitment to giving students access to industry-focused experiences that bring learning to life and help prepare them for the next step in their training or careers.
