Clean for The Queen!
Students gave up their Saturday (5 March 2016) to give King’s Lynn a spring clean fit for The Queen.
The #NCSActionDay coincided with the national 'Clean for the Queen' campaign; an initiative setting out to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.
National Citizen Service graduates collected 55 bags of rubbish from Greenpark Avenue, the road that leads to Alive Leisure Lynnsport, which was formally opened by Her Majesty the Queen, in 1982.
Saturday’s event was overseen West Norfolk and Borough Council and coincided with the National Citizen Service Graduate 'Call to Action Day'.
Andrew Gedge, head of uniformed and public services at the College of West Anglia, said: “In recognition of the excellent relationship between the Borough Council and the College, and remembering that the Queen formally opened Lynnsport, we decided that we would want to invest in collecting rubbish along Greenpark Avenue.
“The area around Lynnsport looked so much better and it was a real privilege to have been a member of a set of young people wanting to positively improve the environment for others. I would in particular like to thank Sarah Moore from the Borough Council who supported this initiative.'
Sarah Moore, operations manager at the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, said: “It’s great to see young people getting out and about and volunteering for these kinds of activities that contribute to our work in keeping the area clean and pleasant to live in. They tackled the litter pick with great enthusiasm and were obviously very pleased with their results. We hope that we can involve more groups in this and other volunteering opportunities to improve our local area.”
