CWA artwork displayed in Germany Ministry of Education
Student artwork produced as part of a joint European project between The College of West Anglia, ROC Friesepoort, Netherlands and the Heinrich-Hertz Europakolleg in Bonn, Germany, has been exclusively selected for display in the Ministry of Education and Training in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The art exhibition was officially opened by the Education Minister, Silvia Loehrmann, who stated that that the tri-country project entitled SMART (Soul Mates In Art) was “amazing”. She fully supported the aims of the project, as it provided the opportunity for students in different European vocational colleges to come together to confront stereotyping with the aim to breaking down prejudices. To this end, she said, “bridges can be built and the Europeans of tomorrow grow closer together”. She further stated that “Using Art as a medium made the SMART project even more attractive” and that “many teachers, educators and those associated with education who visit the Ministry of Education will be made aware of the project exhibition, and will draw inspiration from the work displayed here”.
The artworks will remain on show at the ministry for 3 weeks, and follows a series of exhibitions where the work has been on tour, and displayed in each of the three countries.
The students in the College of West Anglia (CWA) art/media faculty have participated in the European project over the past two years, and have travelled to both of the partner countries as part of the project.
CWA has an extensive and expanding European program, which gives many students the opportunity to travel and study in Europe. Hosting vocational students on study placements from many of its partner colleges across Europe, has also created an increased demand at the college for further host families, and employers, in the local area who wish to support its European initiative.
