CWA Construction Students Get on Site Insight
Construction students at CWA, Wisbech Campus are being given a valuable look into life on a construction site.
The students are being given a series of guided tours of the current construction site which will soon be the new teaching block plus the refurbishment work to existing buildings.
The tours are being given by representatives from R G Carter to give construction students, a greater understanding of modern construction techniques and realities of working on site. This includes going through a full site induction including health and safety and an overview of the planned building works.
The tours lead by RG Carter site manager Paul Davis, give the students experience which cannot be simulated in the classroom. Mr Davis said “The tours are only a small part of RG Carter’s work with the college and its students and we hope to build on this relationship in the future”.
Programme manager for technology at CWA’s Isle campus, Alan Seeley said “The opportunity for our students given by RG Carter cannot be replicated by tutors in the workshops. The tours are not only informative, but also inspiring to the next generation of construction workers”.
The new building is a 1400m2 teaching centre with state-of-the-art teaching and IT facilities for a range of curriculum areas, including health & social care, hair & beauty and uniformed services which will open in summer 2015. The building will also feature a new main entrance and reception area and a complete refurbishment of the two existing buildings, with the expansion of the restaurant, social areas and learning resource centre.
