St Edmunds Defends Against the Big Bad Wolf
They could be some of the youngest bricklayers to be taught at the College of West Anglia, King’s Lynn Campus.
Around 17 youngsters from St Edmunds Community Foundation School, its Little Gulls nursery and Penguins reception class, learnt whilst having fun building their own brick walls at the college’s construction department.
The children aged between four and five, are learning about the fabled Three Little Pigs and how their house construction methods did or didn’t fend off the Big Bad Wolf.
The children were helped by construction tutors at the college to build a pyramid-shaped mini wall, worthy of fending off the threat of the hungry Wolf. Tutor James Pightling “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children, gives them a good insight in bricklaying to help them understand their story. It was great seeing the kids get their hands dirty which they loved”.
The children will also be making structures of straw and wood back at their school to compare the differences.
St Edmunds teacher Fay Faulkner said “The session is brilliant, last years group are still talking about their experience, they enjoyed it that much. Even their discussions have helped them with communication lessons”.
As a reward, college staff presented the children with certificates to mark their bricklaying achievements and a goody bag to take home.
