Student Brad chases national award
Vehicle paint-spraying student Brad Raven performed so well in a competition’s online test that he has been awarded the chance to get into the national WorldSkills finals.
He is currently in his second year of a paint and body course at the Isle campus of the College of West Anglia at Wisbech.
Brad, 20, from Doddington, will now have the chance to demonstrate his practical skills at the next heat at Atherstone in Warwickshire on June 13.
After his online test, examiners wrote to tell Brad: “A space has now become available in the AutoRefinishing Heat and as you gained such a high score in the online test I’d like to formally invite you to attend the SkillAuto National Heat for the AutoRefinishing competition.”
Success in the practical test could lead Brad to the WorldSkills at the NEC in Birmingham in November.
He will be following in the footsteps of his friend Callum Johnson, a former Isle student Callum Johnson, who finished fourth in Worldskills and second in an Institute of the Motor Industry competition which saw him presented with his prize by Prince Michael of Kent.
“It would be nice to beat Callum,” said Brad, who, like Callum, has Bob Whalley as his lecturer.
Hardworking Brad manages to combine his course at the Isle campus with work. He works at weekends at R.J. Beedy garage at March.
