Winner of The Voice UK Performs At King’s Lynn Academies
Winner of BBC singing competition The Voice UK, performed in front of student audiences at King’s Lynn Academy (KLA) and King Edward VII Academy (KESA).
Jermain Jackman who won the contest at the end of the third series in 2014, was in King’s Lynn to promote the National Citizen Service (NCS), which is run by CWA.
Jermain, who graduated from the national programme in 2011 and is now an NCS ambassador, gave a talk to year 11 students about his experiences on the course, before giving a performance to the select audiences.
Organiser and CWA’s Head of Faculty for Sport, Public and Caring Services, Andrew Gedge said “It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to hear from a celebrity, who has himself completed the programme, demonstrating what an impact it has had on his life”.
The programme is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity open to all 16 & 17 year olds in England, that helps participants build skills for work and life, while they take on new challenges and meet new friends.
The programme runs in the spring, summer and autumn. Participants have a short time away from home and take part in a team project that will help their community.
CWA’s next NCS programme is during the Easter holiday on Saturday 28th March.
Andrew Gedge said “We believe that all young people can step out and step up to the challenge and demonstrate what fantastic, talented, able and committed people they are!”
Jermain who is also a Labour Party Youth Coordinator for Hackney where he lives, famously collected his NCS award from 10 Downing Street and told David Cameron “I'll take your job!”.
He has also stated that in the future, he would like to be the first singing Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
