Youngsters Celebrate Success at NCS Graduation
Last Thursday King’s Lynn Corn Exchange was the venue for over 80 young people, graduating from the latest National Citizen Service (NCS) ‘Wave’.
The NCS programme is a national scheme, which is delivered locally by the College of West Anglia, during school holidays throughout the year.
The course which is backed by the government is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that helps young people build skills for work and life, while taking on new challenges and meeting new friends.
The graduates from the October ½ term ‘wave’. The activities the students took part in were designed to develop self-confidence improve their interpersonal skills and learn about their community through social action projects which typically saw the students arranging fundraising events for local charities.
Andrew Gedge, Head of Faculty for Public Services hosted the awards and said “The graduation is a great occasion for the youngsters to celebrate their success on the programme, which for many of the participants meant stepping outside of their comfort zone to achieve their goals”.
The graduates were encouraged to continue their NCS journey by either becoming volunteers or team leaders on future waves but also staying in touch with their social action projects.
During last year some 160 young people, who came from all over West Norfolk, took part in a variety of activities ranging from Kayaking to organising onesie fun runs. The programme is held at Mepal outdoor centre and Bircham Newton.
The next NCS course takes place during February half-term, followed by the Easter holiday which will kick off on Saturday 28th March.
