Course Description
This qualification requires learners to complete a mandatory work/industry placement experience throughout the duration of the qualification, before certification.

What will I study on this course?

Mandatory Units as follows - 40 Credits:
- Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
- Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
- Maintain food safety when preparing, storing and cooking food
Optional units as follows:
- Produce basic hot sauces
- Produce basic meat dishes
- Produce basic cakes, sponges and scones
- Produce basic hot and cold desserts
- Produce basic rice, pulse and grain dishes
- Produce cold starters and salads
- Produce basic pasta dishes
- Provide a counter and takeaway service
- Prepare hot and cold sandwiches
- Prepare and cook food to meet the requirements of allergen sufferers
- Complete kitchen documentation
- Maintain and deal with payments
- Set up and close kitchen
- Produce healthier dishes
- Employment rights and responsibilities in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector
- Prepare, operate and clean specialist food preparation and cooking equipment
Entry Requirements

You must be 19 or over in the previous academic year to access this course.

It would be advantageous to have some recent, relevant experience within this sector, but it is not essential.

You must be in a paid or voluntary role in a suitable workplace setting for 10 hours a week.

You will ideally hold a grade 4 or above in English but it is not essential. An assessment may be carried out to determine suitability if you do not hold this qualification.

You must meet certain eligibility requirements to be funded for this qualification. You can obtain funding through the Adult Skills Fund. More details can be provided on application.
