Senior Healthcare Support Worker - Apprenticeship - Level 3

The broad purpose of the occupation is support registered healthcare professionals in the delivery of high quality and compassionate health and care services. A senior healthcare support worker will provide clinical, therapeutic or diagnostic care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare professional. For this standard, the adult nursing pathway will be completed: Providing care and support for adults as part of the nursing team. Some of the individuals the adult nursing support worker cares for will have short-term needs for example, if they have a wound which requires dressing. Others may have long-term conditions which affect them every day, all their lives. Many individuals will have more than one condition, and some will need round the clock care for all their personal needs including feeding, washing, going to the toilet as well as for their clinical needs.

• You will have GCSE grade 4 (or higher) in English language & maths, or equivalent as a minimum
• You should be working in a relevant healthcare role, providing clinical, therapeutic or diagnostic care under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
• You will be interviewed and assessed to identify your potential, commitment and motivation to achieve the apprenticeship, based upon the range and level of activities you will be undertaking in the workplace.
• You may need to undergo an initial assessment of your Maths and English to show your ability to undertake study towards level 2 Maths and English.
• At the start of your apprenticeship programme, you will need to be employed by a suitable and appropriate employer for at least 30 hours per week, including any off-the-job training you undertake. Where a part-time working pattern is undertaken, joint agreement may be made between with the employer and the apprentice for an extended apprenticeship duration.

What qualification will I achieve?

The level 3 NCFE Diploma in Healthcare Support forms part of the apprenticeship.

How is my course assessed?

• You will build an e-portfolio of evidence and will be assessed in the workplace using a range of methods, for example written assignments, case study work, reflective accounts and practical observation etc.
• An Assessor will visit you in the workplace on a regular basis in order to support you.
• During your apprenticeship you will produce a portfolio of good practice to support the end point assessment at the end of the apprenticeship. The end point assessment is carried out by an independent and impartial assessor and includes: an observation of practice with questions and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence.
